Packet Loss

When accessing the internet, small units of data called packets are sent and received. They travel all the way from your PC to a server. When at least one packet or more fails to reach its destination, we call it packet loss. Visually, you would see this as an image stutter, it may be a brief issue or continuous. During these episodes, latency may be high or low.

But what exactly is latency?

In simple terms, latency is the reaction speed of your internet connection, i.e. the time it takes for data to travel from your device to the server. It is important to note that latency is dependent on the quality of your internet connection rather than the speed. It measures in ms and is often called ping.

The remoteness from the server may cause high ping, and the route signal goes through too. Outdated hardware and network gear can also lead to problems with the connection.

Wi-Fi is convenient but not great for online gaming.

If you feel as though you are experiencing wireless interference while gaming, you can try using an ethernet cable to stabilize the connection. If an ethernet cable doesn’t fix the problem, it is likely your ISP cannot meet the requirements for your gaming needs or there can be problems somewhere on the road.

Some problems can be connected with an outage on the side of major ISP's, so check official discord to learn about these issues.

You can try a different server if your ping is too high to play.

In time, servers will be more populated and become more comfortable for you to play.
